Big News! Sackville Minor Awarded $22,000 Mental Health Grant!
Hello Flyers Family!
At Sackville Minor Hockey, we are accountable to our players. We believe in developing the whole athlete. Our responsibility extends beyond the game to the overall physical and mental health of our players.
This commitment means ensuring both players and coaches receive education and training that address the mental health impacts of sport. We are working to equip athletes and coaches alike with the tools to navigate mental health challenges and to foster a supportive, inclusive, and positive hockey environment.
With that, I am beyond excited to announce that SMH has been awarded a $22,000 grant from the Mental Health Foundation of Nova Scotia to provide mental health training for our coaches, development staff and players this year!
Over the next month, a committee will be stood up to plan and develop the training program. The training will be:
- Evidence-based
- Tailored to athletes & coaches
- Provided to (some) teams as part of their player development
- Provided to all coaches and development staff
- Delivered by trained MHA professionals
- Evaluated for player/coach/parent feedback
If you are interested in learning more about this training or wish to be part of the training program development, please reach out to vpadmin@flyershockey.ca.
Thank you!
