Welcome to Tryouts and Evaluations: A message to our players, parents and families

Welcome to Tryouts and Evaluations

A message to our players, parents and families

Dear Sackville Flyers players, parents and families,

On behalf of the Sackville Minor Hockey Association, I am pleased to welcome you to our 2026–2027 season tryouts and evaluations. This is an exciting opportunity to return to the ice, reconnect with friends, challenge yourself and begin another season as part of our Flyers community.

To our players: Arrive ready to work, give your best effort every time you step on the ice and listen carefully to the coaches and evaluators. Encourage others, compete honestly and treat every player, coach, evaluator, official, volunteer and arena employee with respect. Mistakes are part of learning, so stay positive and show your attitude, effort and willingness to improve. Most importantly, enjoy the experience and have fun.

An evaluation is only a snapshot of where you are in your development today. A team placement does not define your value as a player or person. Everyone develops at a different pace, and every player will have opportunities to learn, grow and contribute throughout the season.

To our parents and families: Your encouragement can make this a positive experience. Please cheer for your player while respecting and supporting every other player and family. Keep comments constructive, avoid comparisons, and give coaches and evaluators the space to complete their work. Questions or concerns should be raised through the association’s proper communication process after an appropriate cooling-off period.

We ask everyone to follow SMHA’s Codes of Conduct and expected standards of behaviour. Respectful language and conduct are required in the stands, hallways, dressing-room areas, online and in every interaction connected with evaluations. Please check schedules and communications regularly, arrive on time and ensure players have all required equipment so sessions can begin safely and smoothly.

This process depends on volunteers who give many hours to organize registrations, schedules, check-ins, dressing rooms, on-ice sessions and evaluations. Please treat them with patience and appreciation. Their work helps provide every player with a safe, fair and positive opportunity.

Thank you for representing Sackville Minor Hockey with pride and respect. I wish every player the very best during evaluations and throughout the 2026–2027 season. Work hard, support one another and enjoy being back at the rink.

Sincerely,

Robert Nurnber

2026/27 SMHA Competitive Tryout Volunteers

SMHA is seeking volunteers to help facilitate the 2026/2027 tryout process. Please note volunteers will not be matched to a division that they have a player registered for.

Bench Staff: Ideally Coaches who have their required certifications from last season. Coaches will not provide any coaching on the bench, and instead will mainly be responsible to ensure all the player's numbers are visible at all times and that lines remain intact.

On Ice Drill Leaders and On Ice Drill Support: Ideally Coaches who have their required certifications from last season.

Dressing Room Volunteers: As per Hockey Nova Scotia, we are mandated to follow the "Rule of Two" when monitoring dressing rooms during all sessions.

Ideally, we would have former managers or coaches sign up as they already have all required certifications in order to monitor dressing rooms.

We truly appreciate each and every volunteer who takes the time out of their schedule to help facilitate a successful tryout for our players in the Sackville Minor community!
