Attention U5 & U7: Welcome to Hockey Event & Volunteers needed!

Hi Sackville Minor Hockey Families,

We’re excited to invite you to our 4th annual Welcome to Hockey Night, happening Sunday, September 13th!

This is a chance to get familiar with the rink, ask questions, meet other hockey families, and get ready for the season ahead.

Event Details:

Who Should Attend:

  • U5 and U7 athletes and their families
  • Anyone interested in learning more about hockey and joining Sackville Minor Hockey this season

What to Bring:

Bring your questions, a mini stick for the kids, and the whole family!

What’s Planned:

  • Meet other hockey families, volunteers, and members of the Sackville Minor Hockey executive
  • Enjoy some refreshments while the kids play mini sticks
  • Take a tour of the arena and check out a dressing room
  • Get an up-close look at the Zamboni
  • Learn some of the hockey basics, including equipment, getting your player dressed, taping sticks, and more
  • Ask any questions you have about the upcoming season

We know there can be a lot to figure out at the beginning of a hockey season, especially with our youngest athletes. This night is meant to be fun and relaxed while giving families a chance to get comfortable around the rink and learn a few things before we get started.

We’re looking forward to a great evening and can’t wait to see everyone there!

See you at the rink,

Mike Black
VP U5/U7

------

Parents of the U5/U7 division. We are looking for volunteers to help out in multiple roles with out U5 & U7 teams. Every little bit helps, and, from personal experience, it is one of the most rewarding things you can do in your child's life.

Coaches are on ice, we are all hands on deck for U5/U7 with certain limitations. If you've played hockey at ANY level please join. We've got plenty of experienced coaches helping you out. Part of this program is to bring in new coaches into our organization. You'll have all the help you need.

The team managers are in the stands, and they will deal directly with the parents, Kelsey Goucher who is our division coordinator, and myself on bookings, jamborees, Moosehead intermission games, etc..

The 50/50 coordinator will be in charge of collecting funds and tickets from all the players each month for the big 50/50 draw. If you're new to SMHA, this is a huge fundraiser for us, a large amount of this goes directly to your player.

Please fill out the attached form if you are interested! U5 & U7 Coach & Manager Volunteers Needed!

Thank you to anyone who is able to put their name forward, and help out in any way.

I look forward to seeing you at the rink!

Mike Black
VP U5/U7

New this year!

We have designed a SMHA Competitive Tryout Process Information page which you will also find located under the "Tryouts & Evaluations" tab of the Flyers website.

The SMHA Competitive Tryout Resource Centre provides players and families with clear information about the tryout process, including policies, timelines, forms, and FAQs. It outlines the proper channels for submitting feedback, appeals, and excused absence requests during tryouts, helping ensure a consistent, transparent, and fair experience for all members. Please review the applicable information and procedures before submitting any forms.

Information will be added to this page as we go through the tryout process, please check back for helpful resources!

Seeking Pre-Season Volunteers - On Ice Helpers & Dressing Room Volunteers

Seeking Pre-Season On-Ice Helpers

We are looking for coaches willing to help during our pre-season camps, starting this evening!

Ideally, we would like coaches who volunteered last season, as we know they have the appropriate certifications required to be on the ice with our players.

If you are volunteering as an on-ice helper, please ensure you are available to attend all scheduled ice times for the camp.

Please use the Pre-Season On Ice Helpers spreadsheet to sign up.

Seeking Pre-Season Dressing Room Volunteers

As mandated by Hockey Nova Scotia, we must follow the “Rule of Two” when monitoring dressing rooms during all sessions.

Ideally, we would have former managers or coaches volunteer, as they already have the required certifications to monitor dressing rooms.

Please use the Pre-Season Dressing Room Volunteers spreadsheet to sign up.

We ask that volunteers only sign up if they are able to attend all sessions for the division and group they are volunteering to monitor.

Thank you to everyone who is able to lend a hand and help make our pre-season run smoothly!
